What Kibo Index is
Kibo Index monitors points of sale such as high street stores, online bookshops, supermarkets, museums and independent booksellers, analyses the data it gathers and opens it to the book sector.
The panel collects which book sold, in what quantity and at what price. The collected data is verified and analysed, turning into critical sector information such as bestseller lists, price analyses, distribution and stock levels. By tracking publishers, imprints, book titles and the real sale prices at the till, Kibo Index sets out a precise and accurate picture of market shares and trends.
This model has been used in the United Kingdom since the mid-1990s and has now spread to more than twenty countries. Bringing the same infrastructure to the Turkish book market is a unique opportunity to give the sector the transparent, independent and reliable commercial data it has long needed.

How it works
- 01
Data from the point of sale
Point of sale (POS) data is collected directly and electronically from bookshops and online retailers across Türkiye.
- 02
Every sale is recorded
At every sale in a retailer that shares data, both the number of units and the price paid are recorded.
- 03
Weekly consolidation
This data is brought together weekly, verified and matched against Kibo Catalogue records.
- 04
Reports that measure the market
It is analysed, turned into reports that measure the whole market and opened to the sector.

Data-driven decision making
Kibo Index data gives you a clear picture of how your publications perform, helping you answer these questions:
- 01
What should the next step be?

Core areas of use
Strategy and new title development
Easy access to sales figures, bestselling works and authors, format and pricing information helps you research a new category or a potential rights acquisition. It lets you identify when a genre takes off, which categories are growing and where you stand against your main rivals.
Supply chain and reprinting
Transparency about what is selling in the market helps you estimate the first print run for new works and monitor whether retailers and distributors hold enough stock to meet demand. You minimise returns and manage cost effectively; you also spot early the new trends that could lift sales of your backlist.
Sales and marketing measurement
You measure the promotional impact of your own works and your competitors. You can use Average Selling Price (ASP) data to see how prices and discounts move week by week or retailer by retailer, and regularly track whether you are on course to hit your sales targets.
Across a book's life cycle
Publishers use Kibo Index sales data to support every decision-making process:
- Are your sales in line with your expectations?
- Did you print enough, or is demand higher than forecast?
- Is the real sale price in line with what you expected and negotiated with the distributor or bookseller?
- Is your book available with enough stock during the peak sales periods?
- How are similar works selling? Have you set your prices in line with other books in that genre?
Having this data puts you in a stronger position when negotiating terms and prices with other businesses in the supply chain. It heads off surprises; with current data you can act quickly to get the most out of your sales.
